By Devon O'Day

This morning as I watched an I-Max film about climbing Mt. Everest, something I often do to remind myself how big the world is and how small I sometimes allow mine to be, I was moved to tears. My regret is that we forget that the spirit it takes for a determined few to attempt a life-challenging task like climbing a cruel mountain is within all of us. We have been lulled by a lazy society into thinking that greatness is not only beyond our means, it's beyond our abilities. This is a falsehood and a travesty.

Anyone who sets out to climb Mt. Everest must make a gradual ascent taking the time for the body to acclimatize. This process is an actual biological change where the red blood cells begin to double to compensate for a loss of oxygen. A person, who goes from below sea level to the heights of a mountain like Everest without taking the time to acclimatize, will become unconscious and eventually die within minutes. This made me realize that the instant gratification taught by our society is not the best way to achieve contentment. We must also acclimatize in life with the peaks and valleys that present themselves. The journey is not meant to be fast, it's meant to be experienced.

150 people have died attempting the summit of Mt. Everest and one third of these people have been killed by an avalanche. Several times a day, the roar of avalanche can be heard by any group who is in ascent. It could easily discourage the fearful. But for a true hero, fear feeds the soul and the joy is in overcoming that feeling of fear. In 100 degrees below zero, the air at the summit is un-breathable, feeling like cold fire in the lungs. What would make a sane, normal human being attempt a feat that would almost always lead to certain death? In a word . . . passion!

29,028 feet and growing every year, Mt. Everest is the tallest mountain in the world. It calls to people with hungry hearts and determined spirits. Stone monuments are along the path to honor those who have died trying to make the climb of the famous peak. Are they less because they have not succeeded in climbing the highest mountain in the world? Are they more because they have followed their dreams instead of watching from a couch somewhere? Even in their failure to accomplish their goal, the people who have lost their lives have still finished far ahead of most of the human population.

What if we can apply the spirit of that rare breed of person that attempts the impossible in our own lives? What if we can climb our own version of Everest where we are in life? In our business, in our community, in our families, in our lives we are daily facing the impossible. We are told at every turn that what we dream is beyond our reach. We are given boundaries by which to limit our passion. We are stopped by people's opinions, by people's rules, and by people's fear. We yearn to fit in, but is there also within us, a stronger drive to stretch into infinity and be more than we think we are?

The Traveler's Gift

The Traveler's Gift by Andy Andrews speaks to that spirit with seven decisions that determine personal success. This book is the metaphoric rope for our climb of Everest in our own lives. With his own personal Everest, Andy Andrews dealt with the passing of both his parents in the same year, when he was a mere teen. Without their guidance and his series of bad decisions left him homeless . . . his Everest. We are conditioned to believe that there is no way out of a hopeless situation. He began to read biographies of people who faced their version of Everest and succeeded to greatness. He found that the degree of greatness people achieve is also directly in proportion to their degree of insurmountable odds in their lives. Human beings are dealt "Everests", just as they are dealt victorious summits. We either choose to climb or choose to sit safely in a status quo of inaction. When we begin the ascent, we upset the status quo of life's onlookers and they begin to tear us down. This tearing down can deter even the most zealous of climbers. However, when we decide that other people's words and opinions mean less than our own, we can then truly achieve the mountaintop. We can ALL climb Everest!

Andy Andrews has spoken for four U.S. Presidents, corporate moguls and their staff, sports stars, and military heroes. His seven principles have been used by many to change their lives from inaction to success by the mere application. Companies have changed their own course of success by employing Andy Andrews' principles to their business model. Military heroes have been made by the courage created by Andy Andrews' simple proven decisions. Sports figures and winning teams have applied Andy Andrews' seven decisions and become champions.

One does not get the chance to hear Andy Andrews share his life-changing stories and historical wisdom on many occasions. Corporations have Andy Andrews booked at their private conventions through 2010, and his schedule, though very busy, does not allow him to speak to all who want to hear. One can only do so many conventions in a year's time!

However, Andy Andrews has created a convention alternative for up to 100 success minded individuals who are spiritual, emotional, and financial Mt. Everest climbers.

September 13, 14, and 15th, 2007, Andy Andrews will meet a new team of "leaders in the making" to spend an incredibly rich three days in the pursuit of dreams. With 99% of his engagements being private and sponsored by one corporation at a time, The Guided Traveler Experience will offer an exclusive intense exploration of The Seven Decisions as introduced in Andy Andrews' book, The Traveler's Gift. From the moment of their arrival at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, every moment of attendees' experience at The Guided Traveler Experience will be unforgettable. From riveting stories to courage building truths, lives will be changed in every way.

For a business or corporation that has already had their annual convention, they can send their top leaders for an enriching three days which will affect their companies, their staff, and their bottom line when Andy Andrews' seven decisions are applied by the attendees upon their return from The Guided Traveler Experience.

There are few who will ever summon the courage to climb Mt. Everest. There are even fewer who will reach its summit. As we examine our own lives and those of the people in our own universe, we can immediately determine the climbers and the doubters among us. Looking up at our own unique Mt. Everest, we are all equipped for an incredible experience. It is up to us each as individuals to try, succeed, or try again until we reach the summit of greatness. The Guided Traveler Experience with Andy Andrews is merely our preparation for the journey!
